Veola Carmella White Grounds 91 passed away Wednesday evening January 23, after a brief illness. She was born August 27, 1927 was was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Lobashi White. Veola was the eight child in a family of fourteen.
Veola left school early and went to work to help the family. She worked at the Princess Theater Boomer then worked at the Custard Stand in Montgomery where she met her late husband Donald Grounds. They were married in 1962 and Veola worked at the College Drug until CVS took it over and then she worked there until she retired in 2012. In her spare time Veola liked to play Bingo and spent time with her family that she dearly loved. When she was able she loved to go to church. She was a life-long member of St. Anthony’s Shrine Catholic Church in Boomer although she lived most of her life in Montgomery.
Surviving: brother William C. White (Dosha) of Boomer; sisters Angelina Mullins of Winfield and Sister Nancy White of Morgantown and sisters-in-law Ruth White of Cedar Grove and Betty White of Fayetteville. Veola was a beloved sister and a special aunt to all of her 36 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers John, Mike, Lawrence, Fred, Toney and Amelio “Tete” and sisters Elizabeth, Anna, Theresa and Vickie.
Mass of Christian Burial will beat 11:00 AM Saturday at St. Anthony’s Shrine Catholic Church with Fr. Dominik Baok, SVD as celebrant. She will be entombed on Tuesday at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow. Friends may call on Friday from 6PM until 8 PM at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery where a Vigil Prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
