Obituary for John Alfred Fleming

John Alfred Fleming age 92 departed this life to be with Jesus on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. John had been a resident of the community of Standard since 1985 and was a member of the Standard Missionary Baptist Church. He was born on October 5, 1926 and was the son of the late Romeo and Blanche Boyd Fleming. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Freda Patrick Fleming and his three brothers two sisters.
John is the father of six children Susan, John Ray, Steve, Diane, Mary Faye and Keith. He is also grandfather of 12 and several great-grandchildren.
John served proudly in the US Marine Corps and served tours in both China and Guam during World War II and honorably discharged from service.
John was a coal miner for 38 years and a great provider for his family. He had a keen witt and always enjoyed a good joke. He also enjoyed any discussions of scripture especially when he would come up with the right answer.
John’s long life is filled with many good memories including his love for Freda and his family and his labor in completion of the gymnasium at the Standard Missionary Baptist Church.
He will be greatly missed my family and friends but with our confidence we can see him again some day.
Service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday January 19, 2018 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. Rodney Skeens officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London. Friends may call two hours prior to service at the funeral home on Saturday. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
